For this project, I created a new modular typeface called "NEU SHAPE". It is a geometric typeface that uses simple modules and a 4x4 grid. I also created a type specimen poster for this typeface. This is a fully usable typeface with a type file that you can install onto your computer. Below, I show the process of creating the typeface.
The first thing I did was sketch basic versions of my letters and use these to create the modules I needed to create the typeface. Once I created my modules, I started making versions of a few key letters. This was to form the rules I would follow for the creation of all the rest of the letters. I then used these rules to create the rest of the letters. Once they were done, I tested them in words and sentences. The final part was making the numbers and the punctuation marks.
Once I had finished all my characters, I used a software plugin for Adobe Illustrator to turn my characters into a typeface file. This included kerning and properly spacing the letters. I then used this file to make a type poster.
